Govt. Islampur College (University College), Islampur, Jamalpur established its journey in 1970 to fulfil the demand of growing need of higher education of the river eroded and educationally backwarded area of Jamalpur. (The then mymensingh). Some renown person came ahead to light many candles here establishing this college. We want to gratefully remember Honorable former state Minister Rashed Mosaraf, Habibar Rahman khan (Ex-Chairman,Palabanda), Dr. Jahurul Hoque, Mofazzal Hoque shah Fakir, Shah Mahmud pahloan (Ghati pahloan), A.K. Mohi Uddin (Tota Miah) (Rev:), Circle Officer Idris Ali , Joynal Abedin Khan Lohani, Ilam Uddin Sarkar (land doner). To establish this institution so many people of this area contributed all their possible helps. Now it is next to Ashek Mahmud college of Jamalpur as a higher education institution. A torch bearing institution of education and research is providing world standard education at every stage of higher education with a view to producing graduates capable of confronting the challenges of the 21st Century. Now it is a full of Intermediate with intermediate Business Management (B.M), Degree (Pass) BA, B.S.S, B.B.S, B.sc, Degree (Hon’s) Bangla, Philosophy, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, Economics, Management, Accounting, Botany, Zoology , Mathematics and 4 subjects Masters Degree (Social Work, Political Science, Management and Islamic History).
