Short History of Chittagong Cantonment Public College Introduction of the Institution Taking a noble pledge to fulfill the educational need of not only Chittagong but also the whole country, Chittagong Cantonment Public College started its journey in 1961. Nestling in the midst of hills in the Chittagong Cantonment, the foundation stone of this institution was laid on the 17th of October 1961. Then this institution marched forward and with the opening of intermediate section in 1981 emerged as Chittagong Cantonment Public College. In 1995 with the opening of BA, B. Sc and B.Com pass courses the institution was transformed into a degree college. Its continued success and unparalleled contribution in the educational sector of Bangladesh earned the glory of being declared the best institution in the country in 2002. In 2005 it won the 'Army Chief of Staff Trophy' for being judged the best educational institution among the 21 Public School and Colleges of the country. Its continuous success, the nation's need for higher education and demand of the day resulted in the opening of Management and Integrated BBA Programme, a four year Honours Course, which transformed the institution into a University College. Its name was changed from Chittagong Public School and College to Chittagong Public College. At present this mammoth prestigious institution has a junior section (starting from nursery to class V) secondary section Bangla medium (from classes VI–SSC), secondary section English medium according to the National Curriculum (from classes VI–SSC). Higher Secondary section (HSC-all groups) and Four Years BBA & BBS honors courses. From its birth, the army-governed Chittagong Public College is performing a glorious role in spreading education and developing human resources in the country. Trained, experienced and highly educated teachers impart education to the students. The aim of Chittagong Public College is to create disciplined, confident and honest citizens. It can truly be called a "great seat of the future leaders." Management of this Institution The Bangladesh Army conducts twenty-one Public School and Colleges throughout the country. For the co-ordination of different activities of these institutions, under the guidance of a high official of the rank of Major General a central co-ordinating committee is formed centrally at Army Head Quarters. According to the instruction of that co-ordination committee and the patronization of the local Area Commander, Chittagong Cantonment Public College is being guided. The Board of Intermediate approves the Governing Body and Secondary Education, Chittagong and National University approve the Governing Body and the Chairman of this committee is an Army Officer of the rank of Brigadier General. An Army Official of the rank of Colonel of the Education Corps of Bangladesh Army holds the post of Principal of this institution. Besides the Governing Body, to conduct the academic activities and decision making for the academic progress and for the supervision of its utilization, Academic Council works. Special features of this Institution In this institution along with academic lessons more importance is given to the practice of discipline, games and sports and other co-curricular activities, which play an important role in the manifestation of hidden talent of the students and the blooming of their personality. Respective class teachers always ensure the attendance of the students and their academic progress. On every Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday assembly is held at 8.00 a.m in the morning. All students and teachers are to remain present in the assembly. All students and teachers are to remain present in the assembly within 7.45 a.m. After assembly classes start as per the days routine. On other days of the week the students have to enter the college campus before 8.00 a.m. and attend the classes and the entrance gate of the college campus is closed at 8.00 a.m. In the beginning of the session academic calendar of events and syllabus are given to the students. According to the academic calendar on specific dates all examinations, co-curricular activities and other competitions are held. To consult with the parents, besides Parents' Day there is an arrangement for meeting with the Head of the Department, the Vice-principal and the Principal. Moreover students' advisory council always plays an active role in solving different problems of the students and maintains discipline. Co-Curricular Activities All the students of this college are divided into three houses. In order to create competitive mind and encouragement among the students Inter-house extra curricular activities such as debate, speech, recitation, music, sports, publishing wall magazine and art competition etc. are observed regularly. Besides BNCC (male & female platoon), Scouts, Girls Guide, Red Crescent and Study Tour, Industrial Tour, Case Study, Internship etc. are included as regular activities.
